Or buy one of the millions of accessories designed to make you feel good? You feel good all the time. Like everyone else, I laugh. But I hate the comedy section at the video store. Somehow, I am committed to the idea that comedy is supposed to make me laugh. This thought makes me suffer, because reality always frustrates my expectations. In most video stores, I was fortunate to attend the comedy section is one of the largest in the store. There may be hundreds of bands (DVD today) stacked along multiple paths. Whenever I get this going, I get depressed. Why? I look at the pictures on the jackets of cinema, and I do not see me laughing. The sad truth is that most films in the comedy section are not designed to make you laugh. They may be cute and light, but they do not produce the release of what happens when your stomach contracts with the spasm of laughter.

Find a movie that makes you laugh is one of the most difficult tasks, you can set yourself at the video store. For this reason, I spend much time hunting the best reviews of the funniest comedies ever. In these reviews, there is hope of discovering obscure gems that have not yet brought to my attention in my long years. When I find a good list, I mine. I go around town at all video stores and compare all the films on the list I have not seen it yet. But finding a good list of movies that will make you laugh is as difficult as finding a film that will make you laugh first. In fact, I came across “Top Ten” list of funny movies that almost made me cry. The good people of this planet definitely do not all share the same sense of humor. In fact, a great lesson on the diversity of human experience can be done by following the list a person at random and try to watch some of the things they find funny. You can find yourself staring in disbelief speechless by asking something like: “Really, what did someone laugh”

And to be entirely fair in this matter, I have watched movies that had given me an abdominal burn from frantic laughing ten years earlier, and found myself staring, incredulous, mouth agape, asking: “Really, this made me laugh?”

As the film opens, the viewer can almost feel something fishy in the waters surrounding the island friendship. The bloodlust of the antagonist of the great white shark has been shown in graphic detail and scenes where he appears from nowhere and catches and tears of his victims into pieces never fail to surprise and turn my stomach, even so far!

Rear Window
Among very good thriller movies to watch, this movie follows an injured professional photographer who is confined to a wheelchair owing to have broken his leg during a dangerous assignment. To kill time, he spies on his neighbors through the rear window of his house and in the process, starts suspecting a salesman of murdering his wife and another neighbor’s dog. James Stewart and Grace Kelley put up stellar performances and the movie follows along a well bound script.

Psycho
Spell Psycho and the next name that pops up is that of Alfred Hitchcock! These two names are inseparable and unforgettable. Psycho was one of the most brilliant creations of master of nightmares with the influence for the antagonist, Norman Bates (who displays bold streaks of Oedipus Complex), being borrowed from the real life crimes of the Wisconsin serial killer, Ed Gein.

This psychological thriller, directed by Alfred Hitchcock (yet again! Oh Al, what would we do without you!!), is based on a novel of the same name by Daphne Du Maurier. The story follows the complex and fearful psychological and emotional upheavals a young woman undergoes due to the strong and negatively potent memories of her husband’s first wife which remain preserved in every corner of their mansion, Manderley, by the first wife’s nanny, Mrs. Danvers.

The Bourne Trilogy
Directed by Doug Liman, and Paul Greengrass, all three movies of the Bourne film series add up to be crowned among the best thriller movies of the decade. All three movies are spy action thrillers and follow the trysts and tribulations of the protagonist, Jason Bourne (Matt Damon), a former CIA assassin who happens to suffer from psychogenic amnesia. Starring Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman, this movie is a gritty thriller which is worth a mention among all good thriller movies of the decade.

Trailer Park of Terror Movie Review

I will preface this review by saying that this is a very well made film with top notch blood-spurting, makeup and digital effects, great cinematography, and excellent sound production. The viewer must keep in mind that it is intended to be a fun horror romp, and should not be taken too seriously. it’s an anything goes horror flick with many redeeming qualities. A true fan of horror comedy (this film tries hard), one who can check his or her brain at the door, will have a few chuckles, and even maybe a guffaw as the film unfolds.

A few familiar faces in the cast include Priscilla Barnes and veteran character actor Tracey Walter, who serves up a few rather unintriguing lines as a patron of the truck-stop diner, and returns in the end to help out a survivor.

Trailer Park of Terror does have a hot blonde in the beginning…

… which takes place at the trailer park sometime in 1980 or 81, where Norma (Nichole Hiltz), our hot blonde born into the wrong way of life, is bothered, berated and bullied by the trailer trash on her way to meet her ticket out of that hell hole: her boyfriend Aaron. On her way out of the park her story is musically narrated by a side-burned southern-rock guitar-Elvis with bad Billy Ray Cyrus hairdo and a Billy Idol lip (played by Myk Watford).

But alas, her runaway dream is not to be. Aaron is inadvertently off-ed by the trailer trash and as Norma runs away from the hokey pokey she encounters a mysterious southern-rock-devil-went-down-to-Georgia stranger (Trace Adkins) who gives her a new ticket. A ticket for revenge in the form of a gun. But it comes with a hefty price tag.

Returning to the trailer park Norma makes quick business of all those who harassed and humiliated her. Then she sits next to the fat lady she shot through the mouth, where she turns on the propane gas, lights up a smoke and waits for the explosive fire to seal the deal. Singing her “come to me Satan” song.

Jump ahead, through a montage of newspaper clippings and signs posted on bulletin boards flashing across the screen, we’re clued in to a trend of missing persons cases. Finally the somewhat nauseating camera pans end and we arrive in 2008, outside a roadside diner where a busload of kids from a church retreat group have stopped for some drinks and snacks before they continue their journey back from a week of finding salvation for their various depraved activities. Apparently the week at camp didn’t work. But they learn what they should be repentant of as the film moves on.

We’re briefly introduced to the characters that will take us through the rest of the film, but not really enough to care about what happens to them, except for maybe the goth chick played by Jeanette Brox. I’m partial to goth chicks.

After shoplifting porn, attempted sex in the bathroom, and a certain favor in exchange for drugs, the unsaved are back on the bus. The film does have it’s share of bad one-liners, evident by the first lame line delivered by the porno-shoplifter kid on the bus when asked to check his cellphone for service. He lamely quips, “looks like a dead zone.” Groan. The commercials from a cellphone company that rhymes with horizon are comical, but the line did not work here.

I don’t want to give away the whole story. Suffice to say the bus is rendered inoperative, and a thunderstorm dumps buckets of rainwater on them as they seek refuge at… you guessed it, the Trailer Park of Terror. Hey, the real horror has only just begun. Now we get into some real gruesome gore effects, and finally a decent dose of humor. See, the trailer trash are still there, haunting the place where they died, in the form of crazy, red-neck zombies hell bent on having a good gruesome time.

Perhaps the funniest bit comes after our side-burned southern-rock guitar-Elvis with bad Billy Ray Cyrus hairdo (sans Billy Idol lip, you’ll see why) is blown apart when he accidentally steps on his own claymore mine as he chases the goth chick through the woods. One of his cronies attempts to reassemble him with duct tape and a staple gun. This is when we realize the movie is supposed to be a comedy/horror, and it might work there on out after all. Things get a little inflated as our zombie rocker jams from atop his public address platform narrating the depraved scene unfolding in one of the trailers below. And the intensity elevates right to the crash up ending.

Some most-expected drama movies and action movies failed to draw audiences to the theater, but the comedies of 2009 were well able to do good box office business. It is a kind of perfect escape from reality and you will have fun watching this movie at home with friends.

Fantastic Mr. Fox:

This is a Fox Searchlight release and is directed by Wes Anderson. Although the trailer didn’t raise that much initial interest with the audiences, the movie didn’t disappoint at the theater. There is nothing too freaky in the plot, and the movie comes to life as you watch it. This is an animated film for adults as the humor is a bit too much over the heads of the kid crowd. A witty and highly entertaining movie for the 2009 movie year!

Up:

This is another animated movie from Disney/Pixar. Millions already have fallen in love with the old fellow who flies with balloons and the small obnoxious kid explorer who accompanies the old man on this adventure. The movie is touching and funny, and the animation is gorgeous to look at. It takes you on an emotional journey as well as keeps tickling your funny side to make you stick to the screen.

500 Days of Summer:

Another release from Fox Searchlight. This is a romantic comedy and one of the best intelligent romantic comedies of the 2009 film year! Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays a hard working greeting card writer who believes in love at first sight while Zooey Deschanel, a free-spirited woman, doesn’t. Find out what clicks between the two in this comedy.
